Mitigating Implicit Bias Viewing Salon

8:00 am / 1:00 pm

Alicia Izquierdo (Psychology) has co-organized this virtual conference together with the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). Given online viewing restrictions for non-members, the BRI is inviting the UCLA community to watch this Conference together with your colleagues.

We all have learned stereotypes that unconsciously influence how we see ourselves and others. Like perceptual illusions, some biases persist even once we are aware of them. Implicit bias impacts diverse scientific communities, ultimately limiting the potential of neuroscientists and inhibiting discovery.

The conference features a diverse panel of experts (e.g. Ketema Paul; Integrative Biology and Behavior, Kimberly Crenshaw; Law) to gain greater understanding and recognition of stereotypes that unconsciously influence how we see ourselves and others. Obtaining these tools will help you be aware of and manage implicit bias at UCLA and beyond. The tools will help you with the relevant sections when preparing your next promotion dossier or grant application.
