GPB Faculty Receive Prestigious Accolades

Exceptional students stem from exceptional faculty mentors.   UCLA has a wealth of incredible researchers, educators, optimists, and life-changers. Just within the past month, several GPB faculty have received accolades and awards from prestigious institutions.  We congratulate:

  • Dr. Kelsey C. Martin, Dean of the David Geffen School of Medicine and a Professor of Biological Chemistry and of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences (Cell & Developmental Biology and Neuroscience Home Areas), and Dr. Anne L. Coleman, the Fran and Ray Stark Professor of Ophthalmology and a Professor of Epidemiology, for their appointment to the National Academy of Medicine. See UCLA Newsroom article here.
  • Dr. Katherine Plath, Professor of Biological Chemistry (Biochemistry, Biophysics & Structural Biology, Bioinformatics, Cell & Developmental Biology, and Gene Regulation Home Areas) and Dr. Elissa Hallem, Associate Professor of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics (Immunity, Microbes & Molecular Pathogenesis and Neuroscience Home Areas), for their appointment in the inaugural class of HHMI Faculty Scholars “early career scientists who have great potential to make unique contributions to their field.” See UCLA Newsroom article here.
  • Dr. Eddy De Robertis, the Norman Sprague Professor of Biological Chemistry (Cell & Developmental Biology and Gene Regulation Home Areas), gave UCLA’s 121st Faculty Research Lecture on October 13th and received the Doctorate Honoris Causa from the Universidad de la Republica in Montevideo, Uruguay, “for significant development of medical sciences in Uruguay.” See UCLA Newsroom article here.   See ceremony pictures here
