We're Hiring – Associate Director for Recruitment and Diversity
Through the new Graduate Programs in Bioscience initiative, UCLA is committed to attracting and training promising students to prepare them for success as leaders in their chosen bioscience career. Our consortium of Ph.D. programs encompasses ten areas of bioscience research excellence at UCLA—Home Areas—that are organized to provide individualized training and mentoring for over 450 Ph.D. students in the College Life Sciences Division and David Geffen School of Medicine.
Position
The newly established associate director position will be central to our efforts to promote excellence and diversity in our graduate programs and foster a training culture that recognizes the vital role that diverse ideas, opinions, backgrounds, and experiences play in the scientific process. You will have the opportunity to shape our approaches and handle the day-to-day aspects of programs and projects designed to achieve our goals. Through activities like outreach conferences and our summer undergraduate research program you will have the satisfaction of working directly with the exceptional students who apply to and enroll in UCLA’s bioscience Ph.D. programs.
The position is classified as an Academic Administrator IV, which offers the opportunity to engage in scholarly activities consistent with the associate director role and your individual expertise. We operate from the heart of the Westwood campus, at the interface of the basic and biomedical science departments that our program serves.
Qualifications
We are seeking a candidate with a Ph.D. in a STEM field and a demonstrable commitment to education and diversity in science—someone with knowledge of current diversity and inclusion concepts and issues in graduate training, a successful record of implementing related initiatives, and the ability to develop relationships and partnerships to build effective programs.
